measure - know - improve

Apple Processing

You know bruising is costing you money. Now you can see exactly where.

Mechanical damage is a persistent cost to apple handling and packing — and for most operations, it has been almost impossible to measure in any useful way. Equipment and process are adjusted. Line speeds change. Experienced people make their best judgment. However, the damage continues because nobody can see exactly which places are causing it.
‍
RealAppleIQ™ changes that. The instrument travels your line exactly as a real apple does, recording every force across 60 sensors over 600 times per second. This data when combined with synchronized video and  RealBruiseIQ™ susceptibility data derived from your actual fruit provides you with shareable insights the apple industry has never had before: a complete, accurate picture of where bruises are happening, how many and what size for each section, operation or process.
Identify the source of damage
Run the RealAppleIQ™ instrument through your line and see every force event across 60 sensors. Force data is displayed on a 3D model with synchronized video. Pinpoint exactly which transfer points, rollers, or drop zones are applying damaging levels of force  — and at what severity and frequency.
Share the insight
Send a link for any measurement run to stakeholders in your organization. They can then open and view the full data and video in RealDataIQ™, control it themselves and arrive at their own understanding. When decision makers can see the insight with their own eyes, confident, data driven decisions can happen quickly.
Optimize operations for your fruit
Use RealBruiseIQ™ to measure the bruise susceptibility of your actual fruit. This accounts for the variety, size grade, and maturity you’re running. Every force event in a RealAppleIQ™ run is then assessed against the real bruise threshold for that fruit. Not an estimate. The actual number. Optimize your operation referenced to your own trusted data.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a measurement session take?
Arrow

A session takes as long as it takes the instrument to travel the section of line being measured. Setup is straightforward. Data is available for analysis in RealDataIQ™ immediately after the session ends. Instrument run time is over an hour in full dynamic mode.

Do we need to stop the line to run a session?
Arrow

No. The RealAppleIQ™ instrument travels the line as part of normal operation. You introduce it at the start of the section being measured and collect it at the exit. The line continues running throughout.

Can the instrument handle our water flume?
Arrow

Yes. The RealAppleIQ™ is waterproof to 1 meter for 10 minutes in clean fresh water and is designed to travel water flumes. Its buoyancy matches that of a real commercial apple, so it behaves in the water exactly as your fruit does.

What if our fruit varies a lot between varieties and maturities?
Arrow

That variability is exactly what RealBruiseIQ™ is designed to account for. A quick susceptibility test on a sample of your actual fruit gives you the bruise force threshold for that fruit. The system accounts for all of the variability that previously made bruise measurement seem impossible.

What does the data actually look like?
Arrow

RealDataIQ™ automatically arranges the data and video to display multiple graphics. Video is syncronized and all metrics and graphics update to display the data selected. Zoom in, out, play, and rewind at will.

Can we share results within our team?
Arrow

Yes. Send a link to the run. They can open the full data and video on their own device. They can control the playback, zoom into any moment, and review it as many times as they need. Faster than scheduling a meeting.

Is our data secure?
Arrow

All run data is encrypted before it leaves your primary laptop. Only users with your license credentials can access your data. You control all sharing. Real Instruments Limited staff access is limited to our Chief Technology Officer for technical support purposes only.
